
President Uhuru Kenyatta has commissioned the construction of the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata barracks which aims at helping to nurture talent across all disciplines.
The ultra-modern sports facility will sit on a 35 acres of land inside the Lang’ata Barracks. It will be built and managed by the Kenya Defence Forces and will host a world-class football pitch and training ground, an Olympic-size swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, and an indoor arena among other ultra-modern facilities.
It will be a 7,500 capacity football stadium while the indoor arena will feature a gymnasium, volleyball court, martial arts, table tennis and other indoor sports facilities. Other than the sporting facilities, the complex will have a recreational nature trail and an aquatic centre for water-oriented sports.
Premier world class
The sports complex will be open for use by sports personalities, military personnel and their families, recovering KDF staff at the Defence Forces Wellness Centre, KDF sporting disciplines. The complex will also be available for premier world class athletes so as to enhance the value to national prestige and brand.
“This Complex is in line with my government’s big four agenda which is to improve our national infrastructure across the country. This facility will help our Kenya Defence Forces excel in sports and also act as a mental health cure since sports indeed is healthy. This Complex will also be available to hosting international events, we have previously hosted the World Athletics Under-18 Championships and the Military Games,” said the Head of State.
