The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) has launched the Status of the Built Environment report for January to June 2021.
Deputy Director General, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Kang’ethe Thuku said the report will provide the required insights in revamping the city and enable Nairobi compete with other cities of the world.
“As we are all aware, Nairobi city is strategically located not only regionally, but also internationally. We are happy that our city is recognized as a budding commercial, transportation and financial hub, which has created immense interest in both local and international investors,” he said.
Thuku who was the Chief Guest during the launch at a Nairobi hotel, said NMS is dedicated to uphold high efficiency, transparency, effectiveness and integrity in the planning approval processes that has faced numerous challenges in the past.
“As NMS we are committed to formulate policies that shall guide and control developments in Nairobi City for the next 10-15 years,” he said.
The Deputy Director General added that the policies will provide insights to both the professionals in the built environment as well as to local and global investors on what, how and where to invest in Nairobi City. In his remarks, AAK President, Architect Wilson Mugambi said the built environment sector 2021 is expected to improve despite the assuming slowdown in Covid-19 cases and recovery in the global economy.
“The on-going construction of the Nairobi Expressway, the Lamu Port under LAPSSET and the dualling of the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway as well as the implementation of the affordable housing agenda will play a critical role in the recovery of the sector,” he explained.
