KAthletics Kenya seeks partnership with County gov’ts to build athletics camps enya to partner with foreign contractors to boost local building capacity

The Athletics Kenya (AK) are urging County governments to partner with them to build world class athletics camps across the country.

Kennedy Tonui, the Athletics Kenya (AK) Central Rift branch secretary general pointed out that the need for the partnership to develop such facilities will go a long way in taking athletics to the next level. He added that camps were the biggest resource for nurturing athletics talents, training, and development noting that the counties should invest on this besides other development activities.

“It is expensive to build the camps thus the need for the counties to chip in and work closely with AK in order to realize or register progress in the sport. There’s need for world class athletics camps across the country for nurturing and training future athletes. So I am appealing to the counties to partner with AK towards this end so that Kenya can produce many track stars who will conquer the world of athletics going forward. Once this is achieved the country’s medal tally during any athletics championships will increase,” said Tonui.

Developing athletics

Mr. Tonui singled out a modern athletics camp in Nandi County which is currently undergoing construction and will be named after Eliud Kipchoge, the four times London Marathon winner as the way to go in developing athletics. He said the county government of Nandi and AK have partnered in this noble project.
