China Gezhouba Company donates Sh 80m to rehabilitate schools, health facilities

Construction of Oncology Centre in Kwale County begins

China Gezhouba Company has released Sh 80m to rehabilitate schools and health facilities in three constituencies in Makueni and Kitui Counties as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the community.

The revelations were made by three MPs, Daniel Maanzo (Makueni), Erastus Kivasu (Mbooni) and David Mwalika (Kitui Rural). Makueni, Mbooni and Kitui Rural constituencies will each receive Sh 26 million to rehabilitate and construct new classrooms in 20 schools that neighbour the Thwake multipurpose dam.

Scope of works

The money will also be used to rehabilitate health facilities and drill bore holes for residents who cannot access Athi River after construction of the dam started.  Some of the schools set to benefit from the funding include; include Kathulumbi, Kamutonye and Ngiluni and Kitoto Secondary school and Kathiani Health Centre where a maternity wing will be constructed. Five tanks will be purchased to help in harvesting water in schools adding that two bore holes will be drilled at Kalawa ward in the area.

“We have asked the sub-contractors who will do the work to come up with the bill of quantities to hasten construction of new classrooms besides rehabilitation of schools before they re-open in January next year,” said Mr Maanzo.

According to Kitui Rural MP Mwalika, an imaging centre will be constructed at Kanyangi Level Four Hospital besides rehabilitating Nzambia and Makanda dispensaries. He added that Kinyao, Kilisa, Syomakanda and Kanyangi will benefit under the corporate social responsibility of the China Gezhouba Company the main contractor at the Multi-billion Thwake Dam. The MP also said that a bore hole will be drilled at Kilisa Primary school and Nzambia dispensary in the constituency.
