The completion date for the Green Park Bus terminus has been pushed further as the Nairobi Metropolitan Service continues with construction works. NMS director-general Mohammed Badi revealed the report and said that the delays has been caused by design issues and consultation with stakeholders.
“Initially, the park was to be ready by early this month, but we encountered some challenges that slowed down the progress of construction. However, we expect that by the end of the month, Green Park will be launched since we are at a very advanced stage,” said Mr. Mohammed Badi.
The terminus is among the new designated stages by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS), as part of the Nairobi integrated urban development master plan and decongestion strategy. It is located at Railways Club and will be the drop-off and pick-up point for at least 110 matatus plying the Ngong and Lang’ata routes.
Green Park Bus terminus
The Green Park Bus terminus adopts a similar design to the Greyhound Terminus in New York, United States. NMS Director-General Mohammed Badi back in September explained that the park will have restaurants to serve commuters after some of the businesses were demolished to pave way for its construction.
Once completed, the Green Park design will be replicated in the other termini that NMS plans to construct along Workshop Road and in Westlands, Landhies–Muthurwa and Globe Roundabout. Other bus termini include Fig Tree Terminus at Ngara that will serve matatus from Waiyaki Way, Uhuru Highway, Kipande and Limuru roads.
A terminus at the junction of Bunyala and Workshop Road is under construction and will serve PSVs from Mombasa Road and the Muthurwa Terminus is expected to remain as is to serves PSVs from Jogoo and Lusaka roads.
“This will promote the construction of more termini to see all PSVs terminate outside the CBD to decongest the city and seat of power while ensuring affordable, accessible and functional transport solutions in Nairobi which hosts 4 million people,” said Mr Badi.
