Construction works on the 64 stadium in Eldoret town is on track. Eldoret Municipal Manager Tito Koiyet confirmed the report and said the project stands at 10% complete.
“Our main challenge so far has been the rainfall, which has been more than usual and has slowed down the construction works at the stadium over the past two months. We’re however working towards getting around the circumstance and see a best way forward” Koiyet said.
Relocation of traders
The Sh 1.1 billion project will be a 30,000 people capacity stadium. The project is partly funded by the World Bank, through the National government and partly by the County Government of Uasin Gishu.
The facility, which is currently being implemented by the Municipality of Eldoret, has been in a dilapitated state with athletes being forced to put up with the situation including training on marram track. The project is set for completion next year and plans to relocate traders from the construction site was in progress to ensure that the exercise was seamless without hitches
“Inspection and oversight are currently being done in conjunction with the department of Roads, Transport, Energy and Public Works and Eldoret Municipality to ensure proper implementation and completion of the stadium. We have great plans for this town. We want this town to be vibrant in business and economic growth and part of this growth comes with such projects as the construction of 64 Stadium,” Koiyet said.
