Construction works on the Chuka modern stadium in is Tharaka Nithi County has resumed. This is after the County Development Implementation Coordination Committee (CDICC) intervened to stop demonstrations staged by casual workers over delayed payment.
The workers claimed to have been owed more than Sh120, 000 by the project contractor, Toddy Civil Engineering and Construction Company. Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner (CC) Ms. Beverly Opwora however intervened and said the government is committed to the completion of the modern stadium and the CDICC has intervened to ensure the workers are paid and the construction continues.
โThe contractor explained to the committee the reasons for the delayed payments and the CDICC has intervened to ensure the workers are paid and the construction continues. It is our responsibility to find out the challenges facing ongoing national government projects and seek timely interventions to ensure they are completed within the stipulated time,โ said Ms. Beverly Opwora.
Chuka Modern Stadium
The current progress on the project includes completion of ground irrigation, electrical installations in the ablution block and the pavilion besides fittings on the roof. The gate is expected to be fitted soon.
The development has an underground tank for storing water both for domestic use and watering the grass on the pitch and is therefore expected to remain green during all seasons a challenge that faces many modern stadiums in several counties across the country. Upon completion, Chuka Modern Stadium is expected to boost the economy of Chuka town that is Tharaka Nithi Countyโs commercial hub.
