Construction of Ulinzi sports complex project has been commissioned. President Uhuru Kenyatta performed the ceremony and said the facility aims to nurture talent across all disciplines.
According to the president, the sports centre will be built to international standards to attract hosting international sporting activities. It will be available for premier world class athletes which will enhance the value to national prestige and brand.
Project’s details
The complex will sit on a 35 acres of land in Langata Barracks and host a world-class football pitch and training ground, an Olympic-size swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, and an indoor arena among other ultra-modern facilities.
Once complete the complex will be a 7,500 seater stadium that will also have a standard eight-lane running track. The works is projected to be completed in a year’s time and is being conducted by Chinese construction company, China Wuyi. The football pitch will host home matches for FKF Premier League side Ulinzi Stars who are currently based at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
“This Complex is in line with my government’s big four agenda which is to improve our national infrastructure across the country. This facility will help our Kenya Defence Forces excel in sports and also act as a mental health cure since sports indeed is healthy. We have hosted various international sporting events in the past such as World Athletics Under-18 Championships and the Military Games and the completion of the complex will further enhance Kenya’s opportunities to host more events in future,” said the head of state.
