
Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo launched a house for a blind couple, Benjamin Nyaga and Loise Kanja at Kariguri village, Kiambere ward in Mbeere South built by local community.
The house was built with a mission of extending of extending hospitality to the needy neighbors during this festive season. Galgalo initiated the process of construction of the house after the fate of the blind couple who were living in shanty mud house was highlighted by a media house.
Poor living condition
The couple, born blind and now in their 80s are celebrating their 52 year in marriage but have been living in a shanty muddy house before the community coming in for their rescue. They have three daughters who are reportedly married but apparently do not support the parents.
Apart from the opening of the Sh. 400, 000 house, the couple also received two beds and mattresses from well-wishers while the county commissioner provided them with food stuff that would last them for two weeks. Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo appreciated the local community and Kiambere ward Community Based Organisation for the house. On issue of creation of Kiambere Division as pushed by local leaders, Galgalo promised to consult more with the leaders over its necessity and viability.
Lenny Mwaniki, Kiambere ward MCA also spoke during the launch and urged the county commissioner to consider the region for relief food owing to the fact that it has been experiencing shortage of rains which will culminate to famine in few months to come.
