The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has issued a tender notice seeking “Expressions of Interest (EOI) for consulting services for the implementation of turbine uprating for Olkaria IV Unit 1&2, and Olkaria IAU Units 4&5 geothermal power plants in Olkaria, Kenya”
Funds have been earmarked for this project by the German bilateral Financial Cooperation, provided through KfW Development Bank. The prerequisites for disbursement are not yet finalised. Any contractual commitment related to this tender procedure is subject to the readiness of disbursement of funds.
The Olkaria V geothermal plant, is one of the largest geothermal power plants currently under construction and the largest African geothermal plant. The power plant is part of KenGen’s green energy development agenda aimed at delivering 721MW of renewable energy by year 2020.
Tender details
The services of the Consultant of this tender include the following activities: Preparation of the Employers Requirements for the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) procurement. The consultancy services must be carried out in close cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. The duration of the project is estimated to be 48 months.
The OEM Service Contract for the scope of works includes; Risk analysis and mitigation, Preparation of documents for the procurement of the OEM to: Design, Supply and deliver two new turbines (one for Olkaria IAU and another for Olkaria IV) each capable of admitting steam at the respective steamfield operating pressure, upgrade the steam path for the existing turbines in Olkaria IV and Olkaria IAU so as to be able to admit steam at higher inlet pressure (equivalent to the steamfield operating pressure) in order to increase power output.
Deadline for receipt of the prequalification document is Thursday, 19 November 2020 at 12:00 hours, EAT. All costs for a site visit, obtaining information/data and preparation/submission of the prequalification document, meetings, negotiations, related to the prequalification or the subsequent proposal shall be borne by the consultants.
