Kirinyaga County develops Sh 47m modern market

A Sh 47million modern market has been built in Kirinyaga County. The County Governor, Ann Waiguru, said the project, which began early this year, is one of the projects aimed at improving all local towns within the County.

The retail market is located at Ngaru, Kirinyaga Central Sub County. It will accommodate 150 traders with additional stalls, which will increase the number to 200 traders. In addition the governor said that all open-air markets will be expanded to accommodate the surging number of traders in the markets, hence the construction of new ones.

โ€œWe are in the process of renovating our local towns to standards like our headquarters Kerugoya and others like Kagio. Our open air markets will also be improved especially expanding them to meet guidelines of Ministry of Health on Covid-19, you know social distancing requires more space,โ€ said Governor Waiguru.

Revival of Ngaru health Centre

The market will serve as a wholesale source for bananas, avocados, sukuma wiki and cabbages which are produced within Kirinyaga central sub county and neighboring Sub-Counties. It will also accommodate the traders who have been selling their products along the roads will be well accommodated within the market.

Governor Waiguru further announced the revival of the stalled Ngaru health Centre. The Health facility had stalled for nine years since it was started by the area Constituency Development Fund in 2012. She noted that her administration in collaboration with the National government will build a one-storey maternity block at the health centre to ensure better maternal services in the area.
