Kirinyaga County Government has recovered 250 acre public land that had been grabbed by private developers in Sagana town.
Governor Ann Waiguru confirmed the report and said that the recovery process is a result a vigorous court battle pitting the county and the private developer. The recovered land which is next to the revamped Sagana railway station will be used to develop an industrial park.
The expansive land is said to have been grabbed during the defunct Kirinyaga county council era and assigned to an individual through illegal means.
Attraction of investment
โThis win is a major milestone. Private developers had used dubious ways to allocate themselves huge chunks of land belonging to the defunct Kirinyaga County Council. The county government is also working hard to recover over 500 acres of public land that has been grabbed at the disputed South Ngariama ranch which was meant for the construction of University, health center and recreational facilities,โ said Governor Waiguru.
The industrial park is expected to go a long way in ensuring value addition for the various agricultural products that are produced in the county, which will be transported by rail to the various markets. It will also attract investors who will put up manufacturing plants, hospitality related industries that will provide employment to county residents.
โMoving forward, we are hopeful that we will establish an industrial park which will be key in providing jobs for our people and transforming the economy of the county and the region at large,โ added the governor.
