Government Agency, Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) have donated Sh 10million to oversee the the construction of the first secondary school in Silale Ward in Tiaty Sub County, Baringo.
KPC Managing director Macharia Irungu spoke during the donation ceremony at Riongo Primary School grounds and said the company through its corporate social responsibility saw it fit to support the area get a nearby learning institution where parents could take their children to acquire knowledge.
“We want our pastoralist communities to shift from the tradition of livestock keeping and allow the young ones undertake education because it is crucial for the growth of any particular region,” explained Mr Irungu.
Scope of work
Accompanied by KPC board member Mr Jinaro Kibet, Irungu stated that the donation will finance the construction of four classrooms, an administration block, a dormitory and staff quarters. The managing director added that the company will also drill a borehole within the proposed school to ensure learning goes on uninterrupted in an area faced with myriad challenges like water shortage, cattle rustling and banditry.
Kibet on his part urged local leaders and other development partners to come on board and assist in implementing projects in order to enhance standard of living in the area. Area MP William Kamket lauded the initiative terming it a big reprieve for the residents who have been yearning to have a school within the locality. He encouraged the locals to prioritize education so that the area can be transformed and the people’s lives improved.
