Nakuru kicks off construction of Keringet Sports Academy

The Nakuru County Government has started construction of a sports and talent academy aimed at helping youth explore their potentials for economic gain. Governor Mr Lee Kinyanjui performed the ground breaking ceremony and said that the facility is intended to transform youth by giving them opportunities to grow their potential.

“The sports academy among other projects will transform the youth as we intend to make Nakuru a breeding ground for talent. We aim to keep them fully engaged,” said the governor

The Keringet Sports Academy Ndabibit situated in Kuresoi South Sub-county will be developed at a cost of Sh 124 million.  It will sit on a 20-acre is expected to be complete within a period of 10 months. The regarded the high altitude facility will include spectator areas, changing rooms, lockers, rooms for sports officials and team coaches, changing rooms for ancillary staff, public washrooms, First Aid and medical center, pitch maintenance and control room as well as VIP Lounge.

Features of the stadium

Other amenities that will be hosted at the academy are Media Centre, VVIP Lounge, boardrooms, an anti-doping room and referee changing rooms. The facility will have a basketball court, football, volleyball, rugby, hockey and netball pitches, a swimming pool and a hall for indoor games and a gymnasium.

According to the County’s work plan, construction works at the 2800 altitude sports facility will also entail construction of an Olympic size swimming pool, an indoor training area, new running tracks and outdoor game facilities. It is also set to offer employment opportunities in associated services such as coaching, physiotherapy, dietary among others once it is completed.

“The county government of Nakuru is working on a tailor-made design that will capture its aspirations and those of athletes. Previously, athletes had to travel to Iten and Sirikwa Sports academy for training.
