Residents of Nandi hills and surrounding areas are set to benefit from the construction of a modern sewer line. Kapsabet Nandi Water and Sanitation Company (KANAWASCO) General Manager Mr Antony Kiboiy revealed the report and said that the project is part of the government’s efforts to provide fast growing towns with sustainable water and sewerage systems to cater for their growing populations.
“The objective of the program is to enhance supply of quality water besides guaranteeing proper waste management.At the moment Nandi Hills has no sewerage system. We expect to construct four modern ablution blocks to serve households and institutions as they are currently using pit latrines and septic tanks to cater for their large volumes of sewage,” said Mr. Kiboiy.
Big relief to the residents
The KANAWASCO provides water services to Kapsabet Municipality, Nandi Hills and its environs, with a total of 5000 connections. Mr. Kiboiy noted the sewerage system, once complete will be a big relief to the residents who currently spend a lot of money on exhauster services as connecting to it will be very cheap.
Moreover, according to a resident of Nandi Hills Grace Moraa, construction of the modern sewerage system will help keep the region safe from flooding especially during this rainy season and thus prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases.
