The authority announced that the lane which is located at Ruiru Toll Station next to St Teresa of Avila Catholic will be closed on Sunday, April 18 for service works and urged Kenyans to practice caution while using the road on the date of closure.
โKeNHA urges all motorists to exercise caution and patience while driving through road section on the aforementioned date of closure. We have however donโt anticipate any traffic flow issues at the section since the necessary measures will be put in place to avoid traffic snarl-up,โ the authority said.
Raised concerns
Sections of Thika Road have in recent months been closed for rehabilitation purpose. Construction works that usually takes place include replacement of road signs, expansion of the road, recarpeting of worn-out sections of the road and the erection of footbridges.
Motorists, in August 2020, raised concerns after rehabilitation works were completed at the outering road- Thika superhighway overpass at GSU. They claimed that contractors had left loose chippings which damaged their windscreens and at times caused accidents.
โThe surface dressing involves road workers to spray the existing road surface with a coating of bitumen, then spread stone chippings on top. Motorists are advised to drive at the speed indicated near areas with loose chippings,โ said KURA in an earlier statement.
