Sh 36m Giribe Dam to be completed in a year

Construction of the Sh 36million Giribe Dam in Migori County is set to be completed within a proposed one-year period. Governor Zachary Obado revealed the report and said r Residents of Giribe in Suna West, Migori County, will have their long water crisis solved.

The Giribe Dam project will cover a total area of 304 hectares and will be funded with Sh36 million by the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) in partnership with the County Government of Migori.

The Earth Dam will have a total capacity of 28,000 cubic meters of water once completed and will be used for human consumptions, fish farming and irrigation purposes where maize, sweet potato, vegetable and arrowroots farmers are meant to benefit.

Project benefits

Upon completion, the earth dam is projected to serve and benefit directly 1,260 homesteads in Suna West and 6,300 indirect residents in Kuria and some parts of Migori County. cattle drinking points will also be set in specific areas to cater for the residents that practice dairy farming.

โ€œWe want this earth dam to change the lives of our people through farming and cattle rearing the County Government through the County Department of Agriculture has ensured that they transform Migori residentsโ€™ subsist through agriculture,โ€ said the governor.

Mr Obado also encouraged residents of Migori to practice other farming activities like agribusiness and beekeeping business.
