Tarmacking works on Juja farm road is set to be completed in two weeks’ time. Kiambu Governor James Nyoro confirmed the report and explained that funding challenges and the rainy season has delayed their targeted projection deadline of April.
The road is part a six-kilometer stretch that was launched by State Department of Infrastructure Principal Secretary Paul Maringa in November at a cost of Sh 3.9 billion which is being funded by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
The road works are being done by H.Young using low volume technology. It has already been graded and the drainage system dug, with only few works remaining before tarmac is laid. Vehicles are also using a diversion route to reduce disruptions during tarmacking.
Industrial development
It will be an extension of 75 kilometers of road that is being tarmacked from Gatundu to Juja and will connect the many industries, schools and residential areas that are coming up in Juja farm. The road will eventually be extended all the way to Komo, Githima and Gatuanyaga along the Garissa road, a 28 km stretch.
The project is expected to end the decade of a perennial headache to residents over its poor state. It is set to open up the area, ease accessibility and enhance industrial development in the area. PS Maringa said that the road will only accommodate smaller trucks for its durability and that it will be equipped with weighbridges to prevent heavy trucks from destroying
