New housing project for police officers in Nairobi commissioned

New housing project for police officers in Nairobi County has commissioned. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i broke grounds on the project at the Industrial Area police lines.

The project is involves construction of 210 housing units constructed within a year to accommodate officers attached to CBK. The complex will also include a police canteen, pharmacy, convenience store, a recreation centre, and children’s play area.

The design incorporates green space with trees and landscaped lawns. The project is part of the Memorandum of Understanding entered into between CBK and the National Police Service in December 2018. The first phase incorporated the construction of the Kenya Police Leadership Academy.

Uhuru’s philosophy

The academy project which is funded by the Central Bank of Kenya at Sh1 billion and is set to be completed by December and was launched in May 2021. Upon completion, the academy will provide the National Police Service with modern facilities for the training of its senior leadership. These include adequate accommodation for 220, classrooms and lecture rooms, a well-equipped auditorium with a seating capacity of 450, kitchen and dining facilities, and recreational facilities.

The collaboration follows President Uhuru Kenyatta-led police reforms aimed at providing better housing for the disciplined forces. Matiang’i said the collaboration was in sync with Uhuru’s philosophy of regarding the police service as a professional duty.

“The officers deserve to live under better conditions in order to work and deliver as expected,” Matiang’i said.
